The Princess Mononoke Tapestry at the OSAKA 2025 World Expo

Since 2020, the Cité has embarked on a new woven adventure, "The Imagination of Hayao Miyazaki in Aubusson Tapestry." Through a partnership with Studio Ghibli, six monumental tapestries make up the series, four of which have been completed and, in some cases, already exhibited in Paris, Bordeaux, and Japan.

The tapestry "Ashitaka soulage sa blessure démoniaque" has been chosen to be displayed in the France Pavilion during the Osaka 2025 World Expo.

"The imagination of Hayao Miyazaki in Aubusson tapestry" began with a woven interpretation of a still image from the animated film Princess Mononoke. It depicts Ashitaka soothing his demon wound after being injured by a possessed boar. This 23m² work is crafted using the exceptional skills of Aubusson tapestry, a tradition mastered for nearly six centuries and recognized by UNESCO. It took eleven months of hand weaving by the Atelier Tapisserie Guillot Aubusson. From April 13 to October 13, 2025, it will be presented in the France Pavilion during the Osaka 2025 World Expo in Japan, where more than 2 million visitors are expected.
