Presentation
Comedia, Limbo, Hugo L'Ahelec, Call for Creation 2019.
Tapestry project associated with a ceramic sculpture, leather spheres that can serve as seating, a three-dimensional mirror on a wooden frame, and a mirror in polished mirror-finished sheet metal.
Hugo L'Ahelec chose to explore, through tapestry as the central scene and its associated objects, the narrative of Dante in The Divine Comedy – Inferno, Canto IV (The Limbo).
With "The Open Work: Tapestry in Extension," the theme of the 2019 call for creation invited artists to imagine tapestry as the central piece of a contemporary artistic and decorative installation, generating an immersive, modular space around the woven work. This space would be adaptable to both living environments and exhibition spaces, incorporating elements using other techniques (textile or paper prints, metal, ceramics, enamel, wood, etc.) that echo the tapestry.
Alongside the Grand Prize of Anne-Laure Sacriste and the 2nd Prize of Raphaël Barontini, the selection jury chose to retain 3 models from the 10 finalist projects of 2019 to promote this type of installation to professionals. Hugo L'Ahelec's project has been retained and made available to potential commissioners.
Hugo L'Ahelec is a graduate of the École Boulle and the ENSCI-Les Ateliers.
