The contemporary creation

The contemporary creation Fund
The Contemporary Creation Fund of the international tapestry City was established in 2010, driven by the commitment of local elected officials and their vision for the future of Aubusson tapestry, a craft listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Carré d'Aubusson
The "Carrés d'Aubusson" collection aims to initiate and produce a series of contemporary tapestry works, each with a square surface area of approximately 3.5 m² (1.84 m x 1.84 m), as part of an agreement with galleries. In contrast to calls for monumental projects (large tapestries), each tapestry square, with its heritage value, contemporary nature, and decorative strength, reconnects with the traditional use of tapestry as a mobile product and vertical furniture, at a domestic scale. Each Square in the collection is created in partnership with an art gallery.

Fonds de cartons 20.25
The brand "Fonds Aubusson 20.25" is a collective brand designed to promote the creation of IG Aubusson Tapestry and IG Aubusson Rugs products and to develop the interest of galleries in the craftsmanship of the Aubusson tapestry/rug sector. This brand is represented within the collections of the International Tapestry City through a fund of cartoons created from selected models acquired by the City. The City then takes responsibility for creating the cartoon and drafting a weaving specification, which remains available to the artist and their gallery to facilitate future weavings or reweavings.

La Réserve des savoir-faire
The Réserve des savoir-faire is a space supported by the International Tapestry City that facilitates the development of applied research projects and creation within the craft of Aubusson tapestry. It is equipped with a technical platform for tapestry preparation, deepening craftsmanship, and exploring the display and lighting of tapestries.

Project management assistance
Thanks to its expertise in project management assistance, the International Tapestry City encourages the creation of tapestries in the Aubusson-Felletin workshops by individuals, companies, or institutions, by connecting them with local artisans and offering technical support to successfully carry out their tapestry acquisition projects. This was the case for Mehryl Levisse's work L'homme est un oiseau comme les autres, a tapestry commissioned by the artist, for the Fée des bois, whose reweaving was commissioned by a private individual, as well as for Pierre Didier's work La Pierre et le ruban. The City is also working on the publication of the creation booklet Intentions. Aimed at artists, designers, art centers, and contemporary art professionals, it will provide an introduction to the Contemporary Fund and an explanation of the process involved in creating a tapestry today.

Discovery, inspiration, immersion
In support of the international prominence of tapestry and its UNESCO designation, the region aims to welcome creators and artisans in the "textile arts / woven art" field through an approach that is both economic, artistic, and heritage-driven.
