Raphaël Barontini: Bringing Painting into the Tapestry Frame

In his continued exploration to “bring painting out of the frame,” artist Raphaël Barontini has turned his attention to the intersection of traditional tapestry weaving techniques and more contemporary textile practices, such as printing and screen printing.

Awarded the 2nd Prize in the 2019 project call, Barontini has spent a significant period developing his artistic vision. The resulting woven piece is set to be unveiled in 2025.

The weaving project has been entrusted to the Ateliers A2, with preparatory work already underway. Barontini recently visited the Cité internationale de la tapisserie to engage with the team responsible for bringing his creation to life.

The tapestry is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
