La Réserve des savoir-faire

The Reserve of Craftsmanship is a structure supported by the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie that offers an immersion into the craftsmanship of Aubusson tapestry. As a professional hub, its main function is that of a technical platform for the preparation of tapestries and the deepening of craftsmanship skills.

Presentation

Intended for professionals or future professionals, it allows one to explore the resources of the region through stays of varying lengths, with the aim of developing projects in connection with the actors of the tapestry / woven art / design and textile materials ecosystem or preparing a tapestry installation. It is a place for preparation, research, and experimentation that plays a role in the production and implementation cycle of tapestries, focusing on themes related to materials – fibres, colour, dyeing – as well as the display and lighting of textile works, finishing touches, and the final touches of the tapestries...

Research & Innovation

The "Réserve des savoir-faire" aims to deepen the research and innovation policy of the Cité internationale de la tapisserie, focusing on the craftsmanship of Aubusson tapestries and their implementation. To achieve this, it has a dedicated workspace for project workshops that enhance craftsmanship, covering various topics related to the preparation and presentation of weavings: fibers and threads, colours, cartoons, textures, textile writing, finishing, hanging, lighting, etc. In this context, the professional hub is designed as a residency space for artists, designers, and, more broadly, specialized individuals in the design and use of tapestries, whether professionals or in training (cartoonists, conservators, dyers, interior architects, decorators, scenographers, lighting designers, photographers, designers, etc.).

Preparation of tapestries

The technical platform of the "Réserve des savoir-faire" has a space dedicated to the preparation of tapestries, where working sessions will be organised on the ongoing and upcoming contemporary creation projects of the Cité. The continuation of the "Carrés d'Aubusson" collection, created in collaboration with young contemporary artists, is, among others, a conducive framework for this experimental work. This format offers numerous possibilities in terms of textile interpretation (working with the cartoon), ease of handling, and setup. It benefits both businesses and project holders involved in the fields of design - textile art / woven art, as well as academic or research partners and the training curriculum of the GRETA of Limousin.
