A Major Expansion Project

Launched in March 2024, the expansion works of the Cité internationale de la tapisserie are expected to be completed by the summer of 2025.
The project
Designed by the Projectiles agency, the building currently under construction, covering an area of 1,600 m², will blend with the surrounding landscape through its concrete structure, complementing the wood covering the façade of the former ENAD building. It will be connected to the current building by an underground corridor starting from the back of the Nef des Tentures and leading to a hall. In this new complex, 530 m² (distributed across 4 rooms on 2 levels) will be dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
With this extension, the Cité will be able to organise temporary exhibitions with easier access for visitors (currently hosted at the Jean Lurçat Cultural Centre, just a few hundred metres from the Cité), and their duration will be extended. Additionally, the new spaces will allow for the display of the large Tolkien and Miyazaki tapestries and will address the growing collection of the Cité with the construction of additional storage areas.
Work completion: Summer 2025.
